它潛伏期不 易確定，感染后可長期無癥狀，多數在感染后半年左右緩慢發病 ，病程較長，也可再一次重癥感染后急性發病。癥狀隨蟲體寄生 的部位不同而異。以胸、腹、腦損害的表現為多見。衛氏并殖吸 蟲成蟲體肥厚，背側略隆起，腹面扁平。活體呈紅褐色，并透明 。固定標本呈橢圓形，體長7.5-12mm，寬4-6mm，厚3.5-5.0mm， 寬長之比約1：2。除口吸盤、主要因蟲體移行引起組織破壞和出 血。肉眼可見病變處呈窟穴狀或隧道狀，內有血液，有時可見蟲 體。隨之，出現炎性滲出，內含中性粒細胞及嗜酸性粒細胞等。 接著，病灶四周產生肉芽組織而形成薄膜狀膿腫壁，并逐漸形成 膿腫。X線顯示邊緣模糊，界限不清的浸潤影。伴有胸水時，肋膈 角變鈍。腫期由于滲出性炎癥，大量細胞浸潤、聚集，zui后細胞 死亡、崩解液化，膿腫內容物逐漸變成赤褐色粘稠性液體。鏡下 可見壞死組織、夏科雷登結晶和大量蟲卵。
