L-Glutamine is an amino acid essential for cell culture. L-glutamine is involved in the formation of purine and pyrimidine nucleotides, amino sugars, glutathione, L-glutamic acid and other amino acids, and is involved in protein synthesis and glucose production. Unlike most other amino acids, L-glutamine is unstable in solution. The rate of degradation is a function of time, temperature and pH. Gibco™ L-Glutamine is a ready-to-use 200 mM stock solution for use as a cell culture supplement. The optimal concentration depends on the cell type and medium used to culture the cells, but is usually in the range of 2–6 mM.
